DESCRIPTION
Start your tour of the Americas in the USA, with Frisco 4-8-2 No. 1522 on the point of a 21 car train up Rolla Hill bound for St. Louis. Then it's on to Pennsylvania, where ex-Reading T1 No. 2102 works a coal train. Out in the Pacific Northwest, Southern Pacific GS4 class 4-8-4 No. 4449 is in action. Then in Wyoming catch Union Pacific's 4-6-6-4 "Challenger" (the world's largest operating steam locomotive) head a 7,000 ton freight train up Archer Hill. You'll also see N&W 4-8-4 No. 611 and 2-6-6-4 No. 1218. In Cuba, Alco, Porter and Baldwin locomotives power sugar cane harvest trains. In Central America, you'll see Baldwin 2-8-2-and 2-8-0 locomotives at work in Guatemala and El Salvador. Down in South America, the attraction is the classic Devil's Nose switchback on the 36 inch gauge line from Guyaquil to Quito in Ecuador. In Chile, you'll see steam in the Ataacama Desert behind Baldwin-built type "W" 2-8-2's. Finally, in Paraguay, the British-built 4-6-0 No. 235 and 2-6-0 No. 53 survive as wood burning engines on a remarkable railway that remains 100% steam operated to this day.
