DESCRIPTION
Germany probably lags only behind Great Britain in the number of preserved and operable steam locomotives, especially those suitable for main lines. Most of these locomotives are owned by private individuals and groups, and were plucked from the steam fleet recently active in East Germany. There are also notable examples of West German steam as well. In 1985, German Federal Railways restored 4-6-2 No. 01-1100 to prime operating condition to star in the 150th anniversary of German railroading. In 1986, film crews chartered the locomotive and trains for a stunning taping session on the scenic Nurnburg to Neumarkt-Wisberg line, including riveting pacing scenes shot from a parallel track through a series of seven tunnels! The sound track consists of locomotive sound only - no narration.
